Whitney Leao

Ship Ahoy

My artwork discusses the connection between slavery, institutionalized racism, and prejudice by examining various forms of oppression and the emotional turmoil experienced by minorities. By combining found objects and various media I construct and design paintings and sculptures.  At first glance, viewers will be intrigued by my use of mixed media and color and will then be pushed to analyze the piece as a whole to perceive the trauma and conditioning that people of color carry with them every day.
